Guinea Pig Boarding

at Cavy House

in La Honda, Ca

San Francisco Bay Area

Although I’m not currently rescuing guinea pigs, I still board piggies. I’ve rescued over 1,400 guinea pigs so have a lot of experience in caring for piggies.

If I have errands to do in Redwood City, I am often able to meet boarders near 280 & Woodside Rd to help cut down the drive here. This is normally between commute hours.

Guinea pigs get fresh veggies daily, Oxbow Cavy Cuisine or Cavy Performance pellets (unless you bring something else),  timothy or orchard grass hay (whichever is appropriate for them), lots of fresh veggies and water. We use kiln-dried pine shavings, just like our own piggies and rescue piggies get. We can use Carefresh bedding for an extra fee (the cost of the bedding), or you can provide it.  We will trim their nails for no charge, just ask.  We can give oral medications at no extra cost.

Your guinea pig will be housed in our C&C cages or similar cages, as seen on www.GuineaPigCages.com.  Most cages are 28" x 42",(2grids x 3 grids) or 28” x 56” (2 grids x 4 grids).  They will not be housed in the same cages as other guinea pigs. We do not have room for you to bring  your own cage.

Please Note:   Please make reservations early. While I used to have up to 16 cages available for boarding, I currently only 5 cages available. Due to space limitations, I’m normally not able to take on new clients during the winter holidays. You can also check with Rabbit Ears Pet Supply (Oakland) for boarding. Some vet offices will board piggies as will some vet techs that work in vet offices.

Please Note:

Should your pet require a trip to the vet while here, hand-feeding (syringe-feeding), wound-flushing, etc there will be an extra charge. For example, a trip to the vet in Half Moon Bay or Peninsula would be $30.

If your pet has health issues at the time of drop-off that you haven’t alerted us to, we reserve the right to not take your pets in for boarding as we don’t want to endanger the other critters .

We will need a history of your guinea pig, including medical history, age (if known), veterinarian contact info etc.  We’ll send you a registration form to fill all that in.

We can sometimes arrange pickup in Redwood City if I'm going to be in the area for other reasons.

E-Mail CavyHouse@gmail.com for more information.

Please Note: We are unable to take any guinea pigs with communicable diseases such as ringworm and other fungal issues, mites, lice, upper respiratory infections and cervical lymphadenitis. The first 4 of these are very, very common in guinea pigs purchased from the big name pet stores so if you’ve recently purchased your piggies from there and don’t recognize these issues, you could be turned away from boarding. We can give medications for non-communicable issues. However, if your piggy requires daily syringe feeding, you need to clear that with us ahead of time. There is an extra charge for syringe feeding.  Because piggies requiring daily syringe feedings are often not medically stable, we normally don’t take on these piggies. However, if a condition comes up requiring it while here, of course we’ll give syringe feedings.

4/25/2023: My apologies, but due to recurring health issues, I need to put a hold on new reservations. Hopefully, this will be short term.  I hope to reopen by November.
